Original 10"x8" watercolor painting on cold press paper. Unframed painting only.
Melba is one of the many unsung heroes of jazz history. She was a soulful trombone player, and was sought after for her second-to-none playing. She played with many heavy hitters, including Dexter Gordon, Dizzy Gillespie, and Billie Holiday. She also led all-women bands and trail-blazed the path for other women musicians.
Melba is also quite well known for her arrangements, which she wrote for Dizzy, Duke Ellington, and Count Basie, to name a few. She artfully fused genres together, including swing, bebop, Afrobeat, and Motown. Melba's playing and arranging influenced the evolution of jazz genres into some of the contemporary fusion styles we know today.
