Josephine Baker was a dancer, singer, actress, activist, World War II spy, and queer black icon! During World War II, Josephine snuck secret messages to French military officials on her sheet music. Throughout her life she was a vocal advocate for racial equality in the United States. Additionally, she was an extremely influential performance artist who pushed the bounds of jazz music and dance and helped popularize them across the world.
