Frankie Manning was at the forefront of innovation in jazz dance. He was a leader and choreographer for the dance team "Whitey's Lindy Hoppers", and over the course of his life performed and taught in countless venues. When a new generation wanted to learn about lindy hop in the 1980s, they sought out Manning as an expert and elder in the artform. His birthday, May 26, is now celebrated as World Lindy Hop Day.
