Consuelo Harris was a shake dancer in the 1930s. Shake dancing is frequently overlooked in jazz dance history, because it was a form of sensual dance performed primarily by black dancers. The compounding biases of racism and avoidance of sexual content means a great deal of this artform has been lost to history. However, you can still find a few clips of Consuelo Harris on YouTube and in films!
