Artie Shaw was a clarinetist and band leader in the swing era. Shaw infused his jazz with European musical influences, resulting in lilting, fluid solos. He also broke racial divides by being the first white band leader to feature a black vocalist, Billie Holiday, as well as playing with other black artists such as Lena Horne and Roy Eldridge.
